ABOUT US

FCD is a faith-based, non-profit organisation serving Durbanville, Fisantekraal and the greater Cape Town area. Since 2010, we have been equipping unemployed individuals with practical skills through sponsored short skills programmes designed to improve employability and create pathways to economic activity.

Our programme portfolio includes Bake for Profit, Barista, Childcare, Craft for Profit, English with Confidence, Frail Care, Construction Basics, Hospitality & Housekeeping Job Readiness, Nail Tech, Admin & Call Centre Readiness, Sew for Profit and Trade for Profit.

Our holistic approach goes beyond skills development, focusing on restoring hope, dignity and self-esteem in vulnerable communities.

The Challenge

South Africa faces an expanded unemployment rate of 41.9%, with youth unemployment at around 60% (Stats SA, 2025). The impact extends far beyond the individual: when one unemployed person becomes economically active, the income they earn can help support several others.

Unemployment also has a profound effect on people's dignity and self-esteem.

Equipping people with practical, relevant skills that improve their ability to find work or generate an income is therefore critical — not only to individual livelihoods, but to families and communities.

The Solution

FCD provides accessible, practical skills training that gives unemployed people the tools and confidence to become economically active — whether through employment, self-employment or income-generating opportunities.

The results demonstrate the impact: during the 2024/25 financial year, 85% of FCD beneficiaries became economically active after graduating.

By helping people develop skills and create livelihoods, FCD enables individuals to provide for themselves and their families — restoring dignity, building confidence and strengthening communities.
