Monise Adonis, a Job readiness student, got a job at Pick ‘n Pay Kraaifontein after completing her course . She then started the Office basics course while working at Pick ‘n Pay. She did not manage to finish her OB course due to having two small children and working while doing the course. She did not give up though- she is now doing a 13 month learnership at Tymebank.

This woman (Zintle Mekana) was such a star. She did not have employment, so she decided to volunteer at FCD once a week at reception. Her attitude was superb and she has now found employment at a call centre in Tygervalley.

Ntombovuyo Booi applied for a vacancy at Ludick Lodge on the final day of her Home Management and Hospitality training. She was successful in obtaining a short-term contract with the opportunity of a permanent position if she proves herself. We are proud of Ntombovuyo, our first Home Management and Hospitality candidate to be placed in a job.
Unita Lakey, who completed Office Basics, has joined the FCD staff team as the Admin Assistant. She says, “In 2018 I started with the Job Readiness course shortly after that I jumped into the office basics course. I haven’t been in the job market for more than 10 years because I was a stay-at-home mom. Returning to an environment of learning and focusing on my own well-being was new to me. Being at FCD boosted my self-esteem and helped me to understand what to expect when going out into the workforce. Not only have I gained knowledge and the capabilities of doing tasks that are expected of me, but FCD also helped me reconnect spiritually with God. I’m currently working at FCD and it feels like home. We are all a big happy family.â€
Lihle Velaphi completed the Frail Care course in April 2019. He is currently working as a relief worker at Yarden Children’s Enrichment Centre and says that he is thoroughly enjoying working with the children. Lihle completed his practical training at Klardyn where he was well loved by the residents.
Nonzwakazi Jack completed the Bake for Profit course before deciding to participate in the Satellite Job Readiness programme in Fisantekraal, after realizing that she did not have what it takes to be an entrepreneur. She was offered a job at Pick n Pay Graanendal after doing her Job Readiness job shadow at that store. She says that “in the past, when I was looking for jobs I could only take my ID because I did not have the skills or knowledge to do what I love and that’s working in the bakery. I’m wholeheartedly grateful for everything FCD has done for me. I can now take care of my family and provide for their needs… and for that I’m forever thankful to FCD.â€
Thyzell Richards is now a private carer for Alzheimers patient. She says “I did the frail care course at FCD and registered at Albrecht Nursing Agency straight away. Through the agency I started doing home-based nursing. I have recently completed a ‘Stop the Bleed’ course at Dynamikos. My experience at FCD was filled with joy because they have offered some helping hands. The facilitators are good at what they do and are patient when they teach. At times I forget how to do things, but because I have the FCD manual, I am able to refer to my notes and refresh my knowledge. I am extremely grateful for everything FCD has given me, from knowledge to prayer. My aspirations are to get into the world of paramedics because I want to be a helping hand to people in need.â€
Sussara Claasen from Fisantekraal is now working at Mica Dubarnville. She says that attending the satellite Job Readiness course helped her to find purpose in life and gave her the confidence to work towards achieving her goals.
Asipwe Ndyiba from Klipheuwel attended the satellite training early in 2019. She says that the course was useful in improving her communication skills and gave her the tools she needed in her job shadow at Medicare Pharmacy. She is now working at Medicare Pharmacy Village Square in Dubarnville as a casual staff member.
Ella Daniels, Office Basics graduate, is now working at Agrimark Dubarnville. She is loving her job and says that her office skills are putting her in good standing for opportunities to grow at the company.
Asabongo Mnto from Klipheuwel completed the satellite Job Readiness Programme in Fisantekraal during the first quarter of 2019. He is now working at Syncrosec Fibre and Electric Services.
Mary-Anne Smith completed Office Basics during the first quarter of 2019. She completed her job shadow at Spectacle Warehouse in Willowbridge and was offered the position of Debtors Clerk at the company shortly thereafter. Mary-Anne was surprised to receive this offer, as she says that she knew nothing about the nature of the optometry business. She says that the skills that she learnt during Office Basics have equipped her to cope well with her duties and responsibilities at work.
Ashley Sias, participated in her job shadow with as much enthusiasm and energy as she gave to every day on the Job Readiness programme. She was pleased to accept a job offer from Pick n Pay Graanendal immediately after completing her Job shadow.
Victor Williams attended FCD’s Job Readiness Programme on a sponsorship from MES (Mould Empower Serve. His love of life and desire to re-enter the workplace was evident to the FCD team by his enthusiastic participation in every training session. Victor completed his job shadow at Mica Durbanville and soon started working for the company on a casual basis. Victor is now permanently employed at Mica Dubarnville.
Khethiwe Gumede, part of 2018’s Frail Care 4 class, was working as a private carer in Graanendal taking care of a 49 year old man who had a broken leg. She is now working as a peer counsellor at the Fisantekraal Clinic.
Khadisha Jumeth is now working at Clicks Dubarnville. She fell pregnant shortly after the course, but returned to FCD to see help finding employment. She says that she went for her interview at Clicks Durbanville shortly after attending one of our Unemployed Grads Mentorship sessions where she was reminded of the importance of creating a positive first impression. She is now permanently employed at Clicks Durbanville and is thriving in her job.

Thembi Masinga finished her Frail Care course at the end of 2018. She is currently working as a private carer for an 89 year old gentleman.. She said when she arrived he could not walk or move much and since she has been there assisting him he is walking and moving very well. We are so proud of you Thembi! You are a brilliant carer.
Elmarie De Waal is now working through Oasis situated in Strand. She is looking after an old lady in Summervale Gordonsbay.

Luzaan Strydom, part of 2018’s Frail Care 4 class is working at Fairtrees Retirement village. She started through Pro Care health agency and then was appointed as a permanent carer.
Janine Lukas, part of 2018’s Frail Care 3 class, is working at Fairtrees Retirement Village. She is working as a private carer.
