Enjoy some of the encouraging feedback received from the candidates who participated in these job shadows
Ncebakazi Malupazi enjoyed the professional environment of  the AL&A (Alwyn Laubscher & Associates) Project Management offices. She felt overwhelmed by the warm reception she received and the willingness of the staff to share their knowledge with her. Ncebekazi says that the experience taught her the value of being very organised in your day to day activities. |
Nellie Mentoor shared her desire to become a social worker with FCD director Jane Gelderman, who immediately saw an opportunity to connect with Badisa about a job-shadow opportunity for Nellie. Nellie shared that this opportunity was a dream come true. In her words (and the lyrics of a well-known song, she said “I had the time of my life, and I owe it all to FCD” . The time at Badisa was all she needed to confirm desire to pursue a career in social work. Her plans post FCD include registering to study the Auxiliary Worker course. |
Elmonise Emtoch worked in retail before joining FCD to pursue her dream of working in an office environment. She was fortunate to qualify for a job shadow at Cab Foods’Â Administrative Office, where she was able to utilize her knowledge of the retail industry as well as apply her newly acquired office skills. |
Charlton Isacks, a young man with may talents and a golden voice, experienced the blessing of getting to work at the church office of the Durbanville Dutch Reformed Church (NGK Durbanville-gemeente). He loved being at the church office and said that he immediately felt part of their family. Feedback from church staff is that they were so impressed with his performance and attitude that they followed up his visit with a recommendation for employment to their network of contacts. |
Shireen Pedro, completed her job shadow at Little Biz Hub, Â the chartered accounting firm who handle FCD’s financials. Shireen enjoyed the experience, realising just how much she enjoys communicating and networking with people. |
Faneka Molodasi, participated in FCD’s Job Readiness Programme during mid 2014 after spending most of her adult life as a domestic worker. She returned this year to further improving her chances of turning her life and career around. Faneka is extremely motivated and hard working, travelling from DuNoon to Durbanville daily and is often the first to arrive. Our Skillwise CompuTutor service provider reports that she’s often been the first person in South Africa to log into the self-study advanced computer programme since she’s been working through the material. Faneka went to the Signa Academy for her job shadow, and although she found the working environment quite tough, we’re proud of the way she handled herself and stuck to the principles that she learnt at FCD. |
Sanele Njoli, FCD’s budding poet, was given an opportunity to job shadow at Radio Pulpit. She says that she enjoyed EVERYTHING about being there and found the creative energy in the place very inviting. She can see herself working in that industry  in future. Sanele has grown in confidence since being at FCD, and realised that she is now able to interact with a more diverse group of people. |
Lucille Diedericks, joined FCD’s Job Readiness Programme late last year and progressed to the Office Admin course this year as a dedicated, gentle, soft-spoken and rather timid young girl. It’s been so encouraging to watch her grow into a confident – and still gentle, dedicated and hard working – young woman. Lucille was pleased to do her job shadow at The Creative Counsel. Demonstrating her new found confidence, Lucille reported back that she’s learned that she does not need to “know everything” before tackling a new challenge, but that with the right attitude and direction, “one learns along the way”. |
Cindy Carelson, a bubbly, mischievous, little chatterbox, found her niche at her job shadow at Radio Tygerberg. Feedback from the Radio station was the “Cindy has a learning spirit and is confident in what she does”. Cindy confirmed that she felt confident in the workplace, knowing what was expected of her. She loved working at the busy reception area, receiving visitors, taking prayer requests and dealing with enquiries. |
