About Us

The Challenge

The current expanded unemployment rate in South Africa is 42.4% with a devastatingly high youth unemployment rate of 62.1% (Stats SA June 2023). For every unemployed person in South Africa, who finds a job, there is an average of 7 other people relying on that income. Equipping vulnerable communities with skills that increase employability and economic activity is critical.

People’s self esteem & dignity are dramatically affected when they are able to provide for their families.

Our Solution

Through our services, we witness lives being changed from once being in an unemployed state to an economically viable lifestyle.

81% of FCD Graduates are able to generate an income and therefore able to put food on the table. Our sponsored skills programmes and services are aimed at vulnerable communities to assist those who are unemployed and who have limited or no access to skills development opportunities.

We provide beneficiaries with exposure to the workplace through “job shadowing” by partnering with local business. Job seeking support is provided to beneficiaries by linking them to job opportunities. Prospective employers are provided with access to suitable candidates at no cost

Our Solution

About Us

In 2008, individuals from various local churches envisioned a skills centre to continue the work started by Learn to Earn, addressing the needs of unemployed people in the area. A Fisantekraal community analysis was conducted to determine the community needs and employment opportunities. As a result, FCD was established in 2009 as a registered NPO/PBO and opened its first skills development centre at the Durbanville taxi rank in 2010.

Since then, our programme portfolio has grown to include the following: Job Readiness, Office Basics, Frail Care, Hospitality & Housekeeping, Bake for Profit, Sew for Profit, English, Beauty & Nails and Handyman. These programmes develop skills, values and attitudes that enable people to become & remain economically active, restoring dignity and self-esteem.

FCD was selected by Garden Cities in 2022 to operate the Greenville Youth Skills Centre in Fisantekraal. This campus creates the ideal platform to better serve this fast growing community and expand FCD’s reach and impact
