Dear reader

At the start of a training course, we kick off with a brainstorming session with the students on ground rules and course values. The Office Basics students listed "show some love" as an important value to demonstrate during their time in the classroom. As we explored the various values and groundrules - like the need to show respect, empathy, teamwork and more - the students recognised that showing "some love" in fact encapsulated most of the values that would contribute to a positive learning experience.

With February being the month of love, we've also been blessed to have 3 generous and extremely energetic individuals "showing some love" and offering to raise funds for FCD. Read below how you can also spread the love through your support of their fundraising efforts.

We'd like to use this opportunity to remind you that the end of the 2016/2017 tax season is fast approaching on the 28th of February. As a registered tax payer, you (or your company) are able to reduce your tax liability by donating up to 10% of your taxable income before the end of the month. So if you feel prompted to support FCD, you can be assured that your donation will be tax deductible (that also includes donations towards the cycling fundraisers.)

This year Brent Russell will be riding the Absa Cape Epic, the toughest mountain bike race in the world. It is a 691km bike ride over 8 days in the Western Cape including 15000m of vertical climbing, nearly twice the height of Mt Everest.

"I’ll be facing a physical challenge for 8 days from the 19th-26th March, but there are many people in South Africa who face much more real challenges every day, like getting a job, housing their families and putting food on the table. Those are truly challenges worth faciing. My partner and I will encourage and assist each other through 8 days of hard riding. This is a chance for you to partner with us to encourage and assist those who need a hand-up not a hand-out" says Brent.

"I’d like to use the Epic as a means to raise money for Fisantekraal Centre for Development, a remarkable non-profit that makes a real difference in the lives of people who need a chance to be up-skilled to be more employable. They provide life skills training as well as many other courses to help people be more useful in the difficult job market. I’d like to raise at least R69100, that's a hundred rand per kilometre. This money will go a long way to providing training opportunities for people who might otherwise not be able to get into the marketplace."

"I'd like you to consider sponsoring me a R1 per kilometre completed, or if you're feeling more generous How about R10 per kilometre or even more? It's a worthwhile cause and your donation will truly make a difference in someone's life!"

Their ULTIMATE goal being that of 218km!

Dale Blom, one of our long standing faithful volunteers and board members, hopes to raise R10,000 for FCD by selling export quality plums which she has been blessed to gain access to through a farmer in Paarl.

You can show some love to your family by giving them sweet, succulent fruit straight from the farm by ordering your plums from FCD at R20 per kg.

It costs us between R3000 to R6000 to train one student.

Being an NPO, donor funding is key to our ability to continue our work and make a positive impact on the communities we serve.
